Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech
Departure: Marrakech · Duration: full day (return around 18:00) · Distance: approx. 380 km round trip
Overview
Escape the heat of Marrakech for a day on the Atlantic coast. Essaouira, the former Mogador, is a relaxed, UNESCO-listed port town with white-washed houses and blue shutters, Portuguese and French ramparts, a lively fishing harbour and a cool ocean breeze all year round. It is also famous for its Gnawa music festival. On the way, see the famous goats climbing argan trees and visit a women’s argan oil cooperative.

Itinerary
Morning pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. On the road to the coast, stop to see goats perched in argan trees and visit an argan oil cooperative, where local women produce cosmetic and culinary argan oil by hand – the main economic resource of the region.
In Essaouira, enjoy free time to explore at your own pace, which is the best way to discover this small and peaceful town: the old medina, Moulay Hassan Square, the Skala ramparts with their cannons, the Jewish quarter (Mellah), the port and the long sandy beach. For lunch, try the fresh grilled fish at the harbour. A local guide for a city tour can be arranged on request. Return to Marrakech around 18:00.
